Aim: How do we analyze and critique a news article?
Obj: Select and read a local news article. Analyze the article by discovering its point of view, the accuracy of the reporting and the level of the writing. (What is the audience it is geared towards?)
1 Yesterday you visited the New York Daily News and critiqued an article. Monday you visited the New York Times. Today visit the http://nypost.com find a local news story and read the article.
2 In your response summarize the article, write down who it is directed towards and what decisions the writer has come to about the topic.(What is the point of view?)
3. If you believe the writer remains totally objective explain why. If the writer "slants" the article explain why you believe this is so.
